Hypnosis is a deep state of relaxation, during which the client is still awake and aware of his/her surroundings, participating in the session and is ALWAYS in control of themselves.  

In the late 1700s, Anton Mesmer, the founder of hypnosis, created “magentism” which introduced the idea of being in an alternate state. Over time, magnetism evolved into hypnotism. Initially thought of as a sleep state, Dr. James Braid coined the term “hypnosis” after the Greek God of sleep, Hypnos. However, as we now know, hypnosis doesn’t actually involve sleep, but is instead a theta brainwave function, while sleep is a delta brainwave function. In the mid 1950s, Dr. Milton Erickson founded the American Society of Clinical Hypnosis and helped the American Medical Association classify hypnosis as a therapeutic medical treatment and not an “alternative” treatment.

Hypnosis will be successful ONLY if the client has the desire to achieve his/her goals. Clients will not do or say anything that is against their morals, ethics or beliefs, so they cannot be forced into doing or saying anything. Whatever clients deem “private” is theirs and cannot be coaxed out.

What can you expect from hypnotherapy sessions with Maureen? 

You will undergo a complimentary 20 minute phone consultation to explore the presenting complaint and answer any questions you might have. 

Prior to the session, each client should maintain regular blood sugar by eating a high protein meal an hour beforehand. The initial session is comprised of a 35 minute cognitive portion and 25 minute hypnotic portion. Because of Maureen’s personalized approach with her clients, hypnotherapy sessions typically last 60-75 minutes start to finish. Upon completion, your personalized recording of the session will be emailed directly to you by Maureen.
