How Is Science-Based Hypnotherapy Different From The Tricks You See On Stage?

watch

When we think of hypnosis, many of us think of someone swinging a pocket watch at an audience member and watching that audience member perhaps cluck like a chicken or perform some other silly behavior. However, this is far from the truth. Science-based hypnotherapy is recognized by the American Medical Association, British Medical Association, and the American Psychological Association to treat medical issues, such as fears, phobias, sleep disorders, and other self-limiting beliefs.

Science-based hypnotherapy is backed by extensive research with positive results. For example, there is substantial research that science-based hypnotherapy can reduce physical pain, stop a nicotine addiction, and help treat stress, anxiety, and PTSD. Hypnosis is similar to guided meditation or mindfulness, as you are casting aside normal, everyday judgments and turning inward to a deeper state of concentration. Science-based hypnotherapy is like losing yourself in a good book or movie — the entire outside world slips away, and you are entirely focused.

A hypnotherapist will guide you into a state of intense concentration or attention. This state is similar to being asleep, except you are fully aware of what is going on. While in this trance-like state, Maureen will say positive suggestions designed to help you achieve your goals, whether that be looking fantastic in your bikini or dealing with stress and anxiety.

Because you are in a state of intense focus, you are more open to these positive suggestions than compared to your typical mental state. Hypnotherapy places seeds of different, more positive thoughts. These seeds eventually grow and blossom, paving the way for your unconscious mind to become less cluttered. We aim to harness the power of your unconscious mind through hypnotherapy.
